Cilium Tool Radar (eBPF Networking and Security)¶
Cilium is one of the most adopted Kubernetes data-plane projects for networking, policy enforcement, and runtime visibility.
What the Tool Does¶
Cilium provides CNI networking, network policy enforcement, service load balancing, and observability using eBPF. It can replace or extend traditional kube-proxy and is widely used in performance-sensitive clusters.
Why It Is Worth Watching¶
For teams standardizing on Kubernetes networking and zero-trust policy, Cilium can consolidate multiple capabilities into one control surface. It is particularly useful when platform teams want stronger L3-L7 policy enforcement and deeper traffic visibility.
Maturity and Adoption Notes¶
Cilium is mature, heavily adopted, and actively maintained. Adoption risk is generally low, but migration planning is still required when replacing existing CNI and policy stacks.
