Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 9, 2026

This policy covers two things published by the same person: the k8s.guide website and the K8s Guide mobile apps for iOS and Android. They're built differently and collect different (very little) data, so they're described separately below.

K8s Guide (iOS and Android apps)

K8s Guide is a Kubernetes certification study app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices. It does not have a server, a login system, or an account of any kind.

What's stored, and where. Your quiz history, lesson progress, bookmarks, streaks, and app settings are stored on your device and, if you're signed into iCloud, synced through Apple's CloudKit to your own private iCloud database. That data is associated with your Apple ID, not with any account or server operated by this app. It is never sent to me, and I have no way to access it.

What's stored on Android. The Android app has no cloud sync at all. Your quiz history, lesson progress, bookmarks, streaks, and app settings are stored on your device only. There is no account, no server, no cloud backup operated by this app, and no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs of any kind. Uninstalling the app removes that data from your device. If your device has Android's own system backup enabled, app data may be included in that backup under Google's terms, which is a device-level setting you control, not something this app requests or transmits.

Credly (optional). If you choose to enter your Credly profile URL to track Kubestronaut badge progress, the app sends that URL to Credly's public API (credly.com) to fetch your badge data. This only happens if you enter a URL yourself, and the only thing sent is the URL/username you typed in. That request is governed by Credly's own privacy policy. I don't see or store the response anywhere but your device.

Notifications. Study reminders are scheduled and generated entirely on your device using the platform's local notification system (Apple's on iOS, Android's on Android). No push notification service is used, no device token is collected, and no notification content is sent anywhere.

What the app does not do:

  • No account creation, sign-up, or login
  • No advertising or ad SDKs
  • No analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs of any kind
  • No data is sold, shared, or used for advertising
  • No data collection directed at children

Deleting your data. Settings → Reset All Progress deletes your quiz history, lesson progress, bookmarks, and streaks from the device and, on iOS, from your private iCloud database as well. Deleting the app removes everything stored locally; iCloud data can also be managed or removed directly through your device's iCloud/Apple ID settings. On Android, uninstalling the app removes all of it, since nothing is stored anywhere else.

k8s.guide (website)

The website is a set of static Kubernetes reference and news pages. Unlike the apps, it does use a couple of standard third-party services:

Google Analytics. The site uses Google Analytics to understand aggregate traffic (pages viewed, rough location, device type). This may set cookies in your browser. You can opt out using your browser's cookie settings or the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. There is currently no consent banner on the site, so analytics load by default and opting out is done on your side using the mechanisms above.

Google Fonts. The site loads its typefaces (IBM Plex Sans and JetBrains Mono) from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes a request to fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com on each page load. Google receives your IP address as part of that request.

What the website does not do: there's no login system, no comments, and no forms of any kind. Beyond the two Google services described above, nothing on the site collects personal information.

Your rights and choices

Regardless of where you are, you can email aaron@braundmeier.com at any time to ask what data (if any) is associated with you. In practice there is very little to ask about, since the apps store data only on your device and, on iOS, in your own iCloud account - out of my reach entirely.

If you're in the EU/EEA, UK, or California, the same contact applies for any access, correction, or deletion requests.

Android closed beta testers: if you emailed your Gmail address to be added as an Android beta tester, that address is used solely to add you to the Google Play closed-testing list and is not stored anywhere else or used for any other purpose.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Effective date" above will be updated. Material changes (e.g., adding a new third-party service) will be reflected here directly. There's no separate mailing list for policy updates.
